Jennifer Allevato at the Strathmore

I am so excited to share with you all that I have a solo exhibition at the Strathmore in March!

Still Lives: Jennifer Allevato opens March 10th at the
Strathmore Mansion in Bethesda and is open through April 29.

If you've noticed me furiously painting on Instagram recently,
that's what I've been painting for!

Mark at The Art League

The September show at The Art League Gallery in the Torpedo Factory "Mark" was juried by DC artist Charles Jean-Pierre. My piece "Design and Creation" was accepted and awarded with an Honorable Mention.

This is my second honorable mention of the year from The Art League (I also got one for my piece The Artist's Studio V in June) and I still can't believe it. It's just an honor to be accepted into a juried show.

Charleston ArtWalk

I am so excited to be participating in the Downtown Charleston ArtWalk on March 16
in Charleston, West Virginia (my hometown)!

The ArtWalk is a "free self-guided walking tour of Downtown Charleston’s shops, galleries and businesses featuring regional art and performances."

This is the ArtWalk's 15th year, and the first of the 2017 season. My venue will be The Dressmaker's Closet, which newly relocated to Quarrier Street from South Hills a couple of months ago.  Julie, owner of The Dressmaker's Closet, and her team are incredibly talented and I was honored to be asked to display for their inaugural ArtWalk

I will be showing lots of original work, including several new paintings, and will also have a few prints & cards for sale.

Thanks so much to The Dressmaker's Closet for featuring my work.
The ArtWalk is next Thursday, March 16th from 5-8pm.
Hope to see you there!

Holiday Market

Moving around the holiday season means unfortunately missing deadlines for shows, but I am so fortunate that a spot opened up and I'll be selling at the Del Ray Artisans Holiday Market this weekend!

Friday from 6pm-9pm, Saturday from 11am - 6pm, and Sunday from 11am - 6pm
Del Ray Artisans, 2704 Mount Vernon Ave, Alexandria, VA.

This will be my final show of the year, and it's the last shopping weekend before Christmas, so stop by for some beautifully hand-crafted art and fine wares (paintings, jewelry, pottery, and more!)

I personally will have lots of original paintings (even a couple of large ones!), greeting cards, Christmas cards, prints, and possibly some hand-painted ornaments.

Happy shopping!

Sensory Overload at Whitdel Arts

A couple weeks ago we were able to squeeze in the opening reception for
Sensory Overload at Whitdel Arts in Detroit.

"Our experience of life is woven from the information delivered by our senses. Artistic expression can happen through any of these or combination there of. This exhibition will delve into those senses and how they create our view of the world: sight, sound, smell, touch, and taste."  from Whitdel website

 some smellable pieces

these tiny paintings were audible, too.

This is my piece Fabrics and Things I Wore that I created for the show.

Fabrics and Things I Wore, thread, fabric, & found objects

Statement:

Fabrics and Things I Wore: 1994 – 2014

The clothes we wear are a history: of changing times, trends, events; of clothes we want to wear and those we have to wear. We live in them. We sleep, eat meals, work, party, experience joy and loss. They make us feel safe and loved, or can make us feel self-conscious and uncomfortable. Our clothes are a form of self-expression and our security against the elements.

This is my past: the sweater that was the first piece of clothing I ever bought with my own money and wore proudly for years, even with holes in it; my first prom dress (loved the dress, hated the prom); the pants I wore almost every day my senior year of college in the painting studio working tirelessly on canvases. Here is a piece of the uncomfortable turquoise bridesmaid dress I wore in the wedding of my first dear friend to get married; the cotton dress I wore on the 3rd date with my husband that he unfortunately deemed "the tablecloth dress"; delicate silk organza from my wedding gown.

This is my history, the past 20 years. These are the things I wore and touched.

Recently

Whew, I have a lot to catch up on! The past several weeks have been super busy with shows, weddings, traveling, and orders.

Here's a little recap:

Had a great time at the Leon & Lulu Summer Artists' Market

Printing and packaging for shows and shops!

New painting in progress featuring a lovely ginger jar.

Booth at the Anton Art Fair. The weather was great (the storm held off), and we even saw some friends!

new designs (p.s. for anyone who has ever inquired - this is why I don't offer calligraphy services - all my lettering is carefully gridded out on graph paper before I paint it. Very time-intensive, and not at all practical for envelope addressing!)

painting new designs

Christmas sneak peek!

one of my customers sent me this of my print in her (super cute) bathroom!

Ikea now sells cats. (they find the weirdest places to sit, don't they?)

Also, I now have some paintings available in the Elements Gallery of the Detroit Artists' Market!

Ridge Fine Arts recap!

We had a great time at the Ridge Fine Arts Show this past weekend!

People came to shop, and it was consistently busy all day! So busy in fact, that I forgot to take pics of the whole area and all I have are some booth shots for you.

Sadly those are all the pics I have, so I wanted to share 2 other businesses that I was introduced to at the show.

My booth neighbor was Kate of Kate and Louie Handmade. She is super sweet and makes really cute home and kitchen decor, like dishtowels, napkins, and aprons. She is also a graphic designer, and designs some of her own fabrics.

 (image from her Etsy shop)

We also made one purchase, and it was from Sugar Wood Bakery by Melanie Brooks. Melanie is also a ceramicist and jewelry maker who recently started a bakery and sweets shop. We bought some gourmet lollipops - green tea apple, pineapple coconut pina colada, and kahula coffee with cocoa nibs. yum.

Thanks to Siouxsan Miller (of Green Daffodil) who co-founded and runs Ridge Fine Arts, and to all the volunteers who helped. It was a great show!

Art for the Holidays

I am excited to be included in the Detroit Artists Market Art for the Holidays Market this year! The show is one of the best venues I've seen - it's a really nice mix of high-quality art and functional pieces (like handblown glass).

I wanted to share some of my favorite pieces, and apologize ahead of time for not having all the artists names as they weren't all listed.

these sweets paintings were awesome. I wanted to take the donut home with me!

Super cool vintage fan lamps. Really fun.

gorgeous glasses. I want a whole table of those cobalt blue ones!

cheeky vintage collages. Cinderella (bottom right) was my fave, of course.

lovely wall in the back. Amazing color.

the ornament wall! lots of hand-blown glass goodies.

And some familiar faces...

some of my new florals!

The market is up Tues-Sat through December 30th. It's a cash-and-carry show, so don't wait too long to go!
