2016 in review

2016 was a great and crazy year for my business! 

This was our first full year back in the D.C. area and the first time I've worked as a full-time artist here.

I loved being able to set up my new studio and add to it. My new studio cabinets and countertop (from the Ikea kitchen collection) were definitely a great decision! SO useful!

more often and start prepping Christmas ornaments in, like, May...

 

I also really enjoyed my new series of abstract interiors. It makes my obsession with home decor blogs and shows seem a little more purposeful. :) 

My brother (who was one of the first guests to stay at the Magnolia House in Waco, Texas this year) commissioned me to do a painting of the Magnolia House to send to the couple who runs the House for the Gaines' (they made a request for notes and letters from all the guests who stayed there) -- and Chip and Jo sent me a note back! That was pretty exciting. 

Thanks so much to all my customers and supporters! I'm so excited to get back into the studio. There is lots to work on (some new products coming soon) and maybe finally finish my #100DaysofGouacheBook sketchbook... 

I have just over 20 pages left. 

Seriously I'm gonna do it. 

Despite all the hardships and disappointments this year brought to many, I hope you were able to find some good in 2016.

This holiday season has been quite busy for me!

With my final ornament release out of the way, I can just focus on getting all orders out and enjoy the season a bit.

Final Ornament Release

My final set of ornaments is now available in the shop!  

I have 20 hand-painted ceramic floral ornaments ready to ship. 

I had so much fun painting these! I had no idea the first set would sell out so quickly  -- I wasn't even planning on selling more this season, but apparently people like ornaments. Who knew!? 

Painting trick -- put them on dowels in cups filled with rice to counter-balance the weight!

I am excited to share my new hand painted floral ornaments!

 They are 2.75" ceramic ornaments with hand painted floral designs and metallic paint accents, strung with pretty velvet ribbon. Each comes in a kraft gift box, making them perfect for gift-giving (or for storage to keep for yourself!)

Each ornament is unique and I loved adding the metallic paints to them. They are a bit abstract and a bit modern and will look so beautiful on a tree!

Share art

In times of uncertainty, we must remember that there is always art. 

Art has always been a place of expression, a safe place to share your thoughts, feelings, hopes, and fears; to find like minds. The human experience is a precious and unique one: it cannot be replicated through machines; animals do not experience it. It is sad and beautiful and often frightening and it was created by God; we need art to better understand it and to survive it. Whether it be through music, dance, theatre, film, creative writing, or the fine arts - create it; experience it; share it. Books, poems, operas, installations, internet cartoons, puppetry, break-dancing, a capella singing groups: it's a gift, an outlet. 

Even historically through times of oppression, the artists found ways to still create, to come together and give hope to others: the Renaissance, Dadaism, Modernism, Swing Kids, the AIDS Memorial Quilt (and so many more not mentioned). 

So go to bookstores, to the library, to the movies, to the theatre, to museums and galleries and concerts. Go to church. Sing in your car and in your shower. Read. Write. Paint. Crochet.

There are so many different ways to express yourself and there are so many ways to share it with others. 


Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

New Floral Card Set

Remember my floral sketchbook paintings from here?

 I used some of my favorites for a new mixed floral card set! 

It's bright and fun and is such a great assortment for writing notes -- it even makes a great gift! I have been having such a great time painting these and am so excited to have such a fun and colorful stationery set result!
