Friday night was the opening reception for the Ann Arbor Art Center's All Media Exhibition. I knew a couple of other artists in the show, which was fun, and there was a really great variety of pieces. Listening to juror Marianetta Porter's talk made me miss being in art school surrounded by inspiring people; it's such a different experience when you are working alone in your studio without that challenging academic environment. The juror's award piece (of which I forgot to take a good photo, oops) was a large sculpture made entirely of cardboard, which was not only meticulously crafted, but made a very impactful statement about the environment and the effect we are having on our future (further supported by the fact that it was made out of one of the most unattractive, acidic, and fastest-decomposing man-made substances that exists which, if kept in its original form, aka wood, would potentially last centuries. Smart and cheeky).
Thank you so much to our friends who came!
